ABOUT MUSCLE BEACH GYM:
Located steps from the sand on Venice Beach Boardwalk, Muscle Beach Gym is one of the treasures of Venice. Once the home gym of bodybuilders Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, the newly outfitted facility still serves the community as the only outdoor weight room around.
The equipment is well maintained by the staff of City of L.A. Recreation and Parks and a yearly pass is only $170, a week membership $50 and a $10 day rate. There are plenty of bumpers for all your Power and Olympic lifting needs and most of the bars are straight. If you are into pumping iron or just want to see a piece of living history, then stop by Muscle Beach Gym.

At 1:00 p.m., two time capsules were buried inside the concrete stage at Muscle Beach, in recognition of its 75th anniversary, which was commemorated at the annual Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach Bodybuilding, Figure, and Bikini Competition on July 4.
Several bodybuilding icons attended, including: Joe Weider, former Mr. Olympians Franco Columbu and Samir Bannout, former Ms. Olympia Cory Everson and former Mr. Universe Bill Grant. 1948 Miss Muscle Beach Sara Clark was also present who has letters buried in the time capsule donated by Jill Prestup from the Venice Historical Society.
