BEER DRINKER’S GUIDE TO VENICE. Written by Alex Stowell.
Abbot Kinney once asked, “where is the beer?” Well, in honor of our great city’s founder, I am going to answer that question. We will look at several local watering holes, and seek out the best deals they have.
–
Barlo Kitchen and Cocktails- This local gem, located on the ground level of Hotel Erwin, locally sources all of its beer! That is right! Every single bottle of brew is made in California. Amongst the offerings are West Coast IPA, Scrimshaw pilsner and Old Rasputin. Now I be eco-friendly and drink beer at the same time. Now that sounds like responsible partying!
Danny’s Deli- Danny’s has stepped it up several notches. They now have Stone IPA and Flying Dog IPA on draft. Danny’s opens at 11:30 Mon-Fri and 11:00 on Sat and Sun. Happy hour specials: $5 well cocktails, $4 Drafts and $4 Glasses of wine . www.dannysvenice.com
Nikki’s- Nikki’s has $3 drafts everyday from 4-7p.m. Included in their tap collection Karl Strauss IPA and Red Trolley amber. This is one of the best deals in Venice. Go get some! Woohooo. www.nikkivenice.com/
The Townhouse- This long-time Venice hang has its own signature brew. Crisp, refreshing and only available at the Townhouse. They also serve up the big 22 0z. slammers for the extra thirsty! Happy hour starts daily at 5:00 p.m.townhousevenice.com
James Beach- A brand new draft system featuring Allagash white ale and Stone IPA is a welcome addition to this beautiful peoples hang. www.jamesbeach.com
Sidewalk Cafe- The Sidewalk has $3 pints of Bud products in the bar daily from 4-7 p.m. As well, they have several rotating taps to keep the beer snob happy. Great people watching in the heart of the boardwalk. www.thesidewalkcafe.com/
The Canal Club- Half price drafts on Monday three rotating taps should keep you good and hydrated. www.canalclubvenice.com
Cabo Cantina- Cabo has 2 for 1 bottled beer during both of their happy hours (4-7 p.m. daily and 10 p.m.-12 a.m. Sun.- Tr) The selection includes almost every Mexican beer there is, and several domestics as well. thecabocantina.com/
Figtree’s Cafe- Chill out on the boardwalk and drink $3 beers everyday from 3 p.m. ’til close. Their selection of bottles is vast, and includes the gold standard Sierra Nevada and Amstel Light. figtreescafe.com/
Trip- Though Trip is Santa Monica, they are deserving of inclusion in this article, simply for their commitment to live music. $2 PBR all day, everyday and Green Flash’s West Coast IPA is on draft makes the trek to SM worth it. www.tripsantamonica.com
Venice Ale House- The VAH is now brewing their own beer. Christened Hi-hop by owners Tom and Spoony (founder of Kona brewery), this beer crushes. It is crispy and refreshing, yet hoppy and strong. You could drink it all day in the sun, or with a steak for dinner. And, at 6.2 abv, it gets the job done. Way to go VAH.
Larry’s- One of Venice’s newest arrivals, Larry’s is serious about brew. They have 26 rotating taps and happy hour weekdays from 4-6 p.m.!!! Wow, I think I could live here. larrysvenice.com/
Well Folks, that is all for this edition of the Beer Guide to Venice, I hope you enjoyed it!
