As a child Coleen played the flute and piano, and became a dancer at a young age. Coleen’s mother had a strong interest in the beauty industry, and performing arts. So, being immersed in that environment was the beginning of the road to a career in skin care. Her passion for all things beauty came to a head in 2000 when she started working in the industry full time. Following her relentless drive for betterment, Coleen sought out, and educated herself on, the best and most innovative practices in the skin care industry.

Coleen says that being an entrepreneur “requires a committed strength to the journey. It is important to be original, and to use concepts that work with your life, and reflect who you are.”

Epithereal Skin Care specializes in non surgical technologies for skin care, has been open 2 years, and is growing rapidly.

When Coleen is not working she is heavily involved in equine rescue. She spends about 6 hours a week grooming and working with the abused and rehabbed horses at Red Bucket Equine Rescue. Check out redbucketrescue.org for more info.

As well, yoga and cooking are high on list as fun past times. As are hanging out with Josie and Chole, her Yorkie and Maltese companions.

Coleen’s favorite Venice activity is to go for long walks through all the different areas and take in all different senses of each.

1. Tell us about Epithereal. What makes it so special? At Epithereal, we focus on beauty from within. Skin care is a personal matter, which is why we strive to create a safe, trusted environment for our clients. We want each guest to be happy with their customized treatment plan.

2. Describe your perfect day in Venice: Leaving my house by foot, strolling over Ocean Front Walk and doing late brunch with friends (so many great restaurant choices! we rotate them), then hopping on the bike with my pup and heading thru the Marina and then to Abbot Kinney Blvd for coffee and snacks and of course shopping! I love to shop local.

3. Define success: Being comfortable with your mistakes, learning from them and occasionally sleeping past 8am.

4. Biggest achievements so far… Surviving cancer, waking up healthy each day and being grateful for every chance and opportunity I am given.

5. Finish off the statement “Life is… to be experienced, take risks, fail frequently, laugh, cry, play and most important LOVE- love yourself, love others as you would like to be loved.
.
6. Who inspires you? Actually, everyone I meet. I love knowledge and I am so fortunate to meet so many great people each day. Learning from their shared experiences, their struggles helps me to better understand myself and my own personal and professional growth. I am constantly inspired additionally by my family, its great to know I have their acceptance and unwavering belief in me and all my crazy ideas and projects:)

7. Any advise to someone starting up their own business?
- Listen to your gut
- Know your market
- Have several contingencies
- Be proud of the milestones you accomplish, look back at your business plan along the way to make sure your on track with what you set out to do!
- If you don’t get the answer you are looking for ask someone else!
- Be the boots on the ground to truly hear what your patrons have to say. It will make the difference in your growth and continued success and last but not least, delegate when possible, trust the team you hire, reward those who help you to achieve your goal.

8. List 3 things on your bucket list?
- I am an equestrian so someday soon I hope to ride across Iceland by horse back and see the country!
- Night diving with Manta Rays in Hawaii
- Buying a horse property in 5 years so I can have goats, chickens and a little pink piggy too. Unfortunately, our Venice place won’t fit all the animals I love in it.

10. Anything else you want to share about yourself to the world?
I love to cook and explore the world of food when I have time. Being a southern girl it’s fun to take those influences and marry them with all the healthy choice of produce we have here in Southern CA. I love the water, surfing, and writing about beauty and wellness.
