Today the Venice Paparazzi “Pass the Spotlight” shines on skin care goddess Colleen Janaway of Epithereal Skin Care.

Pass The Spotlight is a transferable interview that is passed from person to person in the Venice community. Whoever is completing the interview gets to choose who the goes next. The purpose is to shine a light on all the positive things being done by the fantastic folks in our town!  Maybe you will be next!

.

Tell us about Epithereal Skincare.

Natural beauty and wellness from the inside out is the primary focus of my business. It’s an exciting time to be in beauty and wellness because the advancement of skincare and supplement technologies are really awesome. I know through customization of certain treatments and modalities I can get my clients superior results. Making people feel and look their best is what I love!

.

Biggest achievements so far, and goals for the future.

My biggest achievement to date is learning how to take time for myself and not feel guilty about it. Mindfulness of ones own need to recharge and replenish is so important. To reach future goals we must be at our best, so I strive for that state every day. My goals are to expand my knowledge, grow my business and make a difference through social impact and the respective charities I support. I am reaching for large goals this year! Making bold moves within my industry and stepping out of the box to offer our clients a trusted resource in the very confusing world of anti-aging and beauty.

.

What/who inspires you?

I am so inspired by people who are committed to optimal health and those who seek knowledge for skin and body improvement through eating correctly. It’s harder than you think to be fit and fabulous. Sticking to goals and remaining committed to lifestyle changes can be so challenging. True beauty can only come when your are working toward inner health, the body is a magnificent machine and needs the right fuel to restore and repair. I am most inspired by those who influence others to stay on their selected path, my muse is all the fantastic locals here in West LA who keep Instagram full of fantastic and motivating imagery.

.

Favorite book, band or movie?

Favorite Book: Right now, it’s an old tattered French cookbook that combines old world cooking and lessons of regional flavors for practical at home cooking. Band: Chainsmokers, or anything Eddie Vedder – Yes Please.

.

Favorite affirmation, mantra, or quote

My favorite quote is out of a song by Edith Piaf, I heard long ago, and it was composed in 1959 by Charles Dumont. Non, je ne regrette rein – meaning “NO, I regret nothing” , to be an entrepreneur risk is a daily life reality. Lessons will be learned most certainly. Enjoy the ride along the way and smile when you can.

.

List any life lessons learned

To know internally you are good enough. Have confidence to take chances, failing is all a part of the process. Say NO when it is necessary.

What causes do you support?

I volunteer for a horse rescue called Red Bucket Equine Rescue. They are a living example of the utmost kindness and charity that exists. Every dollar is put back into the ranch and the horses. It is humbling to work with some of those terribly abused and gravely injured horses, donkey and mules. I am in awe of their remaining trust in people like me who just want to help them get better and live out the existence they deserve. I can’t fathom their pain with no voice. The Red Bucket community is amazing and those who support it know they are making a difference.

.

What’s one thing we can do to make the world a better place?

Gosh- this is a difficult one because like most I could offer so many suggestions. But in a few words: Be yourself, embrace others for who they are, leave your judgement behind and pay forward your kindness so others may benefit in some way.

.

Finish off the statement “Life is…

Life is to be experienced, do not be afraid, know that everyone struggles just with different SH-T. Smile, laugh and drink some Tequila when possible.

.

What do you do on your days off? What are your hobbies? How do you treat yourself?

I call my friends to hang out in Venice, take a walk on the beach, go hiking in Malibu, drive to different parts of LA to discover new areas I may have never been. All of the above generally ends with a quest to find the perfect food and drink to accompany the day and the people. The biggest treat is just hanging at home with my dogs and hearing the humming birds dive bombing us while we are listening to the waves crashing or a peaceful sunset glass of wine with my man. My hobbies are surfing, diving, hiking, horses and anything related to cooking and eating!

,

Anything else you want to share about yourself to the world?

Sure! Keep on the look out for a few new projects I have in the pipeline, you can find me on Facebook or Instagram. I am working with a wonderful and knowledgeable health coach Neil Cannon. We are doing a cooking show now being broadcast on AppleTV through the KNEKTTV platform. It totally organic and developing but its so fun and I am enjoying sharing all the cool things and interesting tips I know about eating for beautiful skin. We focus on reducing inflammation throughout the body. Also, I will soon be hosting an AirBNB Experience that locals can participate in too. It will soon be featured on the app so download it if you don’t have it on your phone already.

Describe Venice:

Feels like home to me. I love the diversity and the demographic of people. The creativity that surrounds Venice gives it a unique heartbeat and I appreciate all the artistic opportunities with in our local community. We are so lucky to have clean beaches, great food, arts and music right in our back yard. Not to mention the historical aspects of Venice. These are the characteristics I fell in love with the minute I walked down it’s streets. My fear is too much development will take away from what makes it so special.

.

Describe your perfect day in Venice: (start from morning to night)

Waking up heading to ride my bike to either farmers market or beachside. Then over to Abbot Kinney or Rose for brunch or lunch and meeting friends. Grabbing coffee and brainstorming at Deus and then off to Pilates or Bikram. Grabbing drinks, soaking in the sunshine near my place on Washington and one of the many great choices of restaurants near the Venice Pier. Sunset walk in the canals with my pups and home to cook dinner for my family.

.

What are some interesting destinations/activities in Venice that even locals might not be aware of? Hidden Venice treasures?

Venice sometimes has a great deal of cool events, like community yoga classes or different free workshops. Some months they are plentiful. It’s best to stay tapped into the local feeds for up to date event happenings. Venice Paparazzi comes to mind! I love this little sandwich shop in Venice called Zelda’s and I do take my friends there. I am sometimes surprised when I find out other locals may not have known it exists. But if you love an excellent Cuban sandwich the you may have found your new best sandwich shop. And this may be something most of you know but, vintage surf comfy clothes are a thing. One of my most favorite go to boutiques is a place I send all my friends to when they are visiting, Aviator Nation. If you have not been, snag yourself a sweet pair of sweat pants. You will never want to take them off.

.

Favorite Venice food items, and from where?

Salt Air has amazing Rose and Oysters and excellent atmosphere for just about every occasion. Menotti’s for a cafe Rico. Hinano’s for hang over burgers, beer and good cheer -cheat day! Oscar’s Cervetca for meeting friends and happy hour.

.

Your favorite Venice event(s), activities or happy places?

Rubber Duckie Race and Christmas Boat Parade in the Venice Canals are some of my favorite events. I love hanging out with friends at the rooftop at Hotel Erwin or catching some live music at Townhouse. I have alot of dinner parties at my place so grilling at my house is pretty much my happy place if I am honest.

.

Who should Venice Paparazzi cast the spotlight on next?

A few of my favorite Venice people: Neil Cannon, The Vitality Secret, Kerry Malouf, Makeup artist, Mina Joukar, Real Estate, Matt Orr, creative. – all current residents in Venice. Former Resident possibility Mikey Koffman, PR Agent.
