Los Angeles YAS Fitness Center 2nd Annual YAS-A-THON for ThinkCure! Makes Record Haul
Los Angeles, CA, June 13, 2011 – This past weekend, 150 Angelenos—men, women, and teens—traded their leisurely Sunday afternoons for spin bikes and a non-stop, three-hour indoor cycling marathon for ThinkCure!, as they rallied to help researchers find cures for cancer. Lead by YAS Fitness Center Founder, Kimberly Fowler, YAS students and staff surpassed the mark of $140,000 they set as last year’s Leading Fundraiser for ThinkCure!, the L.A. Dodgers’ Charity dedicated to cancer research performed in Los Angeles.
Emotions ran high as riders gave it everything they had in the 2nd Annual YAS-A-THON. Sweat flowed—as did a few tears—as onlookers and participants cheered each others’ heartfelt efforts. Many riders adorned themselves with the names of loved ones who’ve battled cancer. In the end, Fowler and YAS raised over $170,000 for ThinkCure!
“Cancer research is so important to so many people we were determined to improve on last year’s numbers,” says Fowler. “And that’s exactly what the YAS team did. As a cancer survivor, I can’t tell you how moved I am by the efforts of everyone involved in making this such an amazing event!”
In addition to the many YAS riders who found support from their loved ones and communities for donations, kick-off parties, featuring silent auctions also played a big role in fundraising. Items were donated by Bartel’s Route 66, Dr. Linda Li of Dr. 90210, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dermalogica, Vince, Vita Coco, Smartwater, Kashi, Function Drinks and many others. In Venice, DJ Rafael De La Cruz lent his talents to the night’s festivities.
“For the second year in a row, YAS has inspired the ThinkCure! organization with their enthusiasm and energy,” said a delighted Sarah Gallagher, ThinkCure! Director of New Media and Development. “The amazing donation the YAS team raised will go directly to funding cutting edge research that will bring new, effective treatments for a range of cancers.”
Fowler will appear at Dodger’s Stadium during ThinkCure Weekend, June 24-26th, to present YAS’s $170,000 check to ThinkCure! and throw out the game’s first pitch.
