The Venice Neighborhood Council hosted their 9th annual Community BBQ & Potluck Picnic on Sat. Aug. 8 at Oakwood Park in Venice, Ca. Many came out to mix and mingle with their neighbors, neighborhood council, Fire Station 63, City Councilmember Mike Bonin, and to learn about what is going on in the Venice community.
Chicken, hot dogs, burgers and pulled pork were grilled and served up by Venice’s LAFD Station #63, led by Chief Jeremiah Johnson (retired) and master grillers Todd von Hoffmann and Michael Watkins. Venice volunteers served up sides and desserts made by your Venice neighbors. There was a watermelon-eating contest, a “tug-of-war” with the firefighters, a bouncy house and other fun games for kids and adults of all ages. Music by The Gumbo Brothers, The Potential Suitors, Ocean Funk Walk, and DJ Lobo Man. It was neat to see our very own VNC President Mike Newhouse of The Potential Suitors perform live on stage.
