Here is a message from the La Cabana family!  Our family is deeply saddened to inform you that our Mother (& Grandmother) Nina Louis Haro, founder of La Cabana Restaurant, has passed away peacefully in her sleep, December 29th, 2016.

She was a brilliant and strong business woman who worked diligently her entire life to ensure the success of her business, La Cabaña Restaurant. Our family will remain at La Cabaña and continue in her footsteps to carry on her legacy.

She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.”

Screen Shot 2017-01-25 at 1.05.14 PMLa Cabana’s founder has passed away.  Nina Haro, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 29, 2016 at her home in Lake Havasu, AZ.

She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA of parents Peter and Anita Roberts. She had a love for school and always achieved the highest marks ultimately graduating summa cum laude from Carnegie Mellon University. She was an extremely bright and independent business woman as well and in 1963 she and her husband Carlos Rafael Haro, opened up La Cabana Restaurant in Venice, CA. Through her intelligence as well as her diligence and hard work, led to the success of her business for over 50 years and La Cabaña is now considered one of the most iconic Mexican restaurants in the Venice community. Her love for work however, did not overshadow her love for music. She had a passion for opera and in her later years dedicated much of her time volunteering and working with the LA Opera. She is survived by her brothers Michael Roberts and Brian Gearhart, Sons Robert Rendon, Larry Rendon, and Carlos Luis Haro, Daughters Nina Doyle and Barbara Haro and by Michael Witek with whom she loved, relied upon and cherished for over 25 years. Nina also leaves behind nieces and nephews and several grandchildren. She was loved by many including all of her beloved friends and family of the LA Opera. A celebration of life memorial service was held at her restaurant, La Cabana Restaurant, 738 Rose Ave Venice, CA. 90291.   In lieu of flowers Nina requested that donations be made in memory of Nina Louise Haro to The Opera League of Los Angeles, PO Box 49-1057, Los Angeles, CA.90049-9057.
