Learn about Fight Back Venice and the battle over the proposed “Reese-Davidson Community”  mega development

There is a fight under way regarding the proposed “Reese-Davidson Community” mega development for the large parking lot/open space at Venice Blvd and Pacific.

It has been nicknamed the Monster in the Median or Monster on the Venice Canals.

The proposed would be constructed on a 2.8-acre parcel in a residential area straddling Grand Canal at the Venice Boulevard entrance to Venice Beach, a block from the southern edge of the Venice Boardwalk.  It would be a 3 story, 2 block long, mega development on  Venice and Pacific, built by  Venice Community Housing Corp. and Hollywood Community Housing Corp.

There is a group called Fight Back Venice that are challenging this project.

For those who’d like the opportunity to learn more about the Fight Back Venice/Venice Vision opposition plan- here’s your chance:

IT’S GAME TIME- WE MUST ACT NOW!
The City Advisory Agency voted to move ahead with hearings for the massive Reese Davidson Project on the Venice Canals. An appeal must be filed before February 18th- the wheels are in motion for that. Your support is needed now.

Quick Review

  •    2.8 acre project on the Venice Median on Grand Canal adding at least 420 residents plus friends to the community.
  • Costs upwards of $1 million for each 460 sq ft unit (140 total units)
  •  No priority for Venice Residents.
  • No environmental review (in a flood zone, tsunami escape route, sensitive habitat)
  • Change of zoning to lose open space and overbuild with height and density entitlements (one corner extending 68ft)
  • No current plan for required parking. Talks of an automated/robotic system- freezing future parking projects in Venice for the next 50 years.
There are 2 more hearings before the council votes and we’re in a great position to challenge the project through several legal actions with your help.
If you’re not in a position to give at this time, please forward and share this email with everyone impacted who may be able to do so.
