Here is a message from our friends at Venice Heritage Museum!

The Venice Heritage Museum is honored to present a special outdoor film night. On Tuesday, March 1st, Mardi Gras, we will be premiering Mark Steven Shepherd’s “Venice of America” at The Penmar at 6pm. Mark has filmed in Venice for over 4 decades and has produced an amazing heartfelt documentary, including many people & places lost to us. I can guarantee a great show, many old friends, and a few surprises.

Many thanks to our gracious hosts at The Penmar, the extremely talented Heritage Museum team, and to Mark for sharing his work with us.

Oh, and Hail Venice, it’s Mardi Gras, People! We’ve had to delay our parade with Mistress of Shenanigans Miss Jessica, but it’s time to drag out that Purple, Gold & Green and Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!

VHM presents “VENICE of AMERICA” film screening at The Penmar 3/1

This new local street fest is becoming a monthly staple on the westside. We’ve been having fun connecting with new and old friends at our VHM pop-up tent, sharing our project, and bringing Venice history to life!

On that note, stop by this Tues. March 1 from 12-6 pm to check out our booth’s latest feature: A mini-museum exhibition on the origins of Venice, and the history of Mardi Gras in Venice, a tradition begun in 1912 by African-American community leader, Arthur Reese (pictured above) and revived in the last couple of decades  👑⚜️

One more neighborhood happening:

VHM Board President, Kristina von Hoffmann, is presenting to the East Venice Neighborhood Association (EVNA) Community Meeting (via Zoom) on Thursday, February 24, beginning at 7:30 pm.

No matter where you live, all community members and supporters are invited to participate in the EVNA meeting to hear the latest about the Venice Heritage Museum project and other community initiatives in the East Venice neighborhood. We’re thankful to Paola and Bill at EVNA for the invitation (— especially since Kristina is an East Venice native!)
