Once a week, Venice Paparazzi will be exploring the history of our great town, and sharing it with you, our prized readers, one interesting fact at a time. Thanks to the Venice Heritage Museum for sending in the following information.

ABOUT: THE VENICE HERITAGE MUSEUM. “ENVISIONING A HISTORY MUSEUM FOR VENICE”

•The Venice Heritage Museum is an opportunity to share more than a century of stories, collections and archives from one of America’s most legendary communities – Abbot Kinney’s city-by-the-sea, Venice-of-America.
•Located in Venice of America’s Centennial Park, immediately east of the Venice – Abbot Kinney Memorial Branch Library, the campus “centerpiece” will be a renovated Pacific Electric Red Trolley Car (circa 1905), like those that ran on Venice Boulevard until the 1950s.
•A replica of the pagoda style,’Tokio’ substation that stood on Venice Boulevard is also planned for the campus – so called because of its distance from the Venice business district along Windward Avenue.
•Besides adding an iconic symbol to the gateway of Venice, the campus will also provide the community with a vital new place for events and celebrations.
•Renovation of the Red Car and campus will employ the latest green technology throughout.
