In the video for Sapiosexual, Pope and director Chance Foreman paired 22 strangers with only one instruction…they had to maintain eye contact for the duration of the song. This experience, called ‘Soul Gazing’ , is the powerful practice of making sustained eye contact with another person.

Watching the video for Sapiosexual makes you want to get lost and found in your lovers eyes and blossom from an unconscious vulnerability. Like being hugged without being touched. The range of reactions was so wide and so powerful, it literally made the participants and crew come to tears.

Pope said, “The track itself was conceptualized after the elections. Instead of protesting with my peers in Downtown Los Angeles, I decided to sit down and write a piece that would bring a sense of peace, love, and connection. As the composition took form, I dropped an Alan Watts sample into it and I immediately knew that I was really onto something. Our goal with the video was to create a powerful moving piece that showcases the beauty and strength of human connection. Deep down inside we all seek love, connection, and acceptance. Love > Fear.”

Pope is a creator and artist who loves seeing a grand vision come into fruition. Pope said, “I knew that I wanted to expand on the track and shoot a video that extrapolated on the Alan Watts quote. I wanted to do something powerful, connecting, and showed the importance of human connection and love.”
