June 20 Venice Beach- Paddle Out for Peace & Unity

Hi Venice Beach SURF COMMUNITY!! A floating memorial- paddle out is something we do to pay respect for the lives we have lost.

Let’s come together for a Paddle Out as a beach community to show respect to those who have lost their lives due to police brutality and the innocent peaceful protesters who have also lost their lives, been arrested and locked up for standing up for what’s right!

We all need healing and right now, we can all use peace, love and unity to do so. I know being out in the ocean/ beach always makes us feel good so let’s all get together to connect with one another and show compassion and empathy!

This is what you can expect:
We meet in at Breakwater at 9 am Saturday 6/20. We will start paddling out around 9:30 am. It’s ok if you don’t surf, please join us on the beach. Bring friends, families, pups, and signs! This is a peaceful protest for BLM and you are all welcome! We will have a moment of silence for 8min 48sec on the beach before the paddle out!

We also are coming together for the LGBTQ community in honor of pride month.

PLEASE WEAR MASKS! And remember to take care of the environment as well.

Out in the ocean: We will form a big circle in the ocean sitting on our surfboards (holding hands) 🙂 and whoever wishes to offer words, chant and share can do so (Please contact me if you would like to speak)

Here is a little info of a “Paddle out” from Hawaiian culture:

A floating memorial in the water, known as a Paddle Out, takes place after someone dies. … One or more people offer words or remembrance about the departed and then the whole party erupts in smiles and cheers, splashes the water, throw the flowers into the water and, if ashes are present, spread them.

See you SAT! Please share and repost and spread the word!!!! Special thanks to Briana D’Esposito for helping me organize this event!
