About the Venice Mexican American Traquero Monument:

The Venice Mexican American Traquero Monument has been in the works since 2017. The monument will honor all Mexican and Mexican American Railroad Workers known as “Traqueros” that helped build the Main Railroad Transportation System and the Pacific Electric Interurban Railways.  Inspired by the Venice Japanese American Monument, the Traquero Monument had a petition with over 1, 156 signatures of support from the Venice Community and 23 letters of support from local businesses, organizations, politicians and educational institutions. The Venice Neighborhood Council approved the Venice Mexican American Traquero Monument to be placed on the Windward Circle on December 15, 2020. It went before the City of LA Council and passed unanimously on May 5, 2021 with the blessing of our Civil Rights Leader, Dolores Huerta. The Venice Mexican American Traquero Committee has been fundraising to raise funds for the Traquero Monument. The projected date of completion is 2024.  Click here for more info!
