About

The Legendary Women Artists of Venice Award was established in honor of Women’s History Month. The awards recognize the contribution of women to the arts and their profound impact on society. The awards are presented by the Venice Art Crawl and Venice Chamber of Commerce.

Legendary Women Artists of Venice recipients meet rigorous criteria of considerable accomplishment and contribution to the Arts and Venice Beach community — each one has over 10 years of experience represented by their professional efforts, work, vision, and commitment. The award anticipates a lifetime of achievement for its recipients and the building of a new sisterhood in the Arts.

Equity, Inclusion & Parity aren’t just buzzwords or requirements for corporate hires. Art is an expression of the outer world. How are we storytelling and who’s controlling the narrative? It’s time to listen to the comprehensive experiences of our shared world, through art.

Venice Art Crawl Honors Women With Big Event

The Venice Art Crawl will have their big awards evening on March 16th, and the top of the show will be the awards  presented to the 2023 Legendary Women Artists of Venice.  This year’s recipients are film director Catherine Hardwick, fine artist Sandy Bleifer and photographer Edizen Stowell.  The award was established in 2018 as a way to honor the impact of women in the arts during Women’s History Month.

The event will take place at the Gall3ry at 1324 Abbot Kinney and requires a ticket, which gets you into a great party. Open bar, food, live musical performances, silent auction, a raffle, swag and, best of all, a chance to congratulate this year’s recipients.

Catherine Hardwick directed the Twilight series of films as well as the Lords of Dogtown, Miss You Already and Red Riding Hood and is known for Young Adult stories and award winning films.

Sandy Bleifer is a Venice-based artist, teacher and has a vision of Venice as an arts ‘colony’.

Edizen Stowell is best known for her Venice Paparazzi  work and has been documenting Venice life since 2003.  She was also one of the founders of the Venice Art Crawl and is a force of nature

The event is a big evening to honor and to celebrate our local women so get your ticket!
