A message from the Venice Art Crawl!

The Venice Art Crawl is having a mixer on Oct 20,2022 from 6-9PM at the Rose Room located at 6 Rose Ave. in Venice. The event’s goal is to introduce artists to one another, and to connect with venues on Abbot Kinney to collaborate on showings for the Dec 2 Crawl. Making the evening even more festive, the event coincides with the December First Friday food truck event on the popular street as well.

  • For the VAC mixer – $5.00 for members of the Venice Chamber, and $10 for general admission.

In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month, four artists are showing their work. Legendary Woman Artist of Venice 2018 awardee Jules Muck (muralist), and three breast cancer survivors, Carra Greenberg (oil pastels), Missy Peters (photographer) and Johanna Bkörk (graphic artist).

There will be a “Boobie Booth” that will help educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Data confirms that women under 40 face a significant rate of diagnosis, however yearly mammograms are not recommended by doctors until a woman reaches the age of 40. Early diagnosis will initiate quicker treatments and intervention, which have been shown to increase 5-year survival rates and lower long term mortality rates in the AYA (young adults ages 15-39) breast cancer population.

Jules Muck (@MuckRock) is well known for her worldwide murals, particularly popular in Venice. Some of her most notable work is shown in Venice, New York, Melbourne and on the road where ever she roams.

Carra Greenberg is a lawyer, documentary film producer and a breast cancer survivor. She discovered her love of art during COVID and then chemotherapy. She now uses it as a healing modality. Her latest documentary is about opioid addiction.

Photographer Missy Peters (@Youngbcorg) is the founder of the Young Breast Cancer Portrait Project, which she started after her diagnosis to elevate young survivor’s stories and forge alliances with the medical community. Her vision is to reduce delayed diagnosis and help save lives. She will show some of the 100 impactful survivor portraits she has shot for her project. Supporters will have an opportunity to donate to help this two-year old organization continue to bring survivor stories to med students and high schoolers. Missy currently sits on the CDC Advisory board.

Creative and designer Johanna Björk (@jbjork) will be featuring her art and creating a live piece at the event.
