Today the VP Spotlight shines on psych rock band Movie Club!
No rules sound scapes, ambient, psychedelic, visual journeys without words, call it what you may, or don’t, it’s Movie Club, and they are pulling up to put on a show!
The duo, comprised of drummer Jessamyn Violet and guitarist Vince Cuneo have a lot going on! In addition to the their upcoming EP Black Mamba hitting the shelves, the pair are releasing their double feature music video, inspired by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse, on Friday, June 7th. It’s a tale, told with an old movie projector vibe, of intoxicating peaches, psychic powers, boardwalk dealers, ninja women bounty hunters, and more. Check it out here
As well, they are kicking off their Psychedelic Circus west-coast headlining tour on June 10th at The Townhouse in Venice. Some very special musical guests have been known to sit in with Movie Club, so head over and check out the show.

Movie Club’s no rules, cinematic psych rock sound draws on a wide spectrum of influences including: Pink Floyd, Thee Oh Sees, John Coltrane, The Kills, and Idles, among others. And, in both live shows and recording, the duo often brings in guests artists to perform, further adding to the sonic spectrum.

The pair met at the world famous Cat and Fiddle in Hollywood when they were sitting by each other at the bar, and the bartender, closing out one of their tabs, told them they have the same last name. How many stories start with; we met at a bar. A lot. How many stories are as cool as Movie Club’s? Not many.
The band’s name, Movie Club, is a reference to the their penchant for watching movies together, taking turns picking the flick. Jessamyn names Tank Girl among her all time favorite movies while Vince goes with Pulp Fiction.
