About BGCV:  The Boys & Girls Club of Venice is one of over 4,300 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide. Upholding national guidelines for program content, delivery and quality, a growing number of Boys & Girls Clubs now provide programs over three million youth across our country and in military bases overseas.

About the National Fine Arts Competition:   This year-round program encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6 to 18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits.

Using the interactive National Fine Arts Program Guide, staff can guide youth through the various art projects with step by- step instructions and instructional videos.  A panel of distinguished judges selects works for inclusion in the National Fine Arts Exhibit, which is displayed throughout the ensuing year at BGCA events, including the annual National Conference.

Fine Arts pieces created in the club are submitted by club members of all ages in all mediums. The winners from our local competition are submitted for the regional level and then to the national level for competition. Out of the 4000+ Clubs and hundreds of thousands of submissions, the Venice Club has had 18 National winners!

About Eduardo “Lalo” Marquez,  Art Director:  Lalo is the primary mentor to many of our at risk young people. He is passionate about teaching how to use art as a means of expression as well as fostering the talent of those who have the ability to make visual arts a career.

Since working at the Boys & Girls Clubs, Lalo achieved a reputation for earning national honors. In the past 10 years, under his guidance, 14 members have earned top honors and national recognition in the Fine Arts Competition, sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He is able to teach young learners to express themselves through canvas, mixed-mediums, photography, poetry, spoken word and instruments. Lalo, an honest, energetic and passionate advocate for the arts, motivates and supports young people to reach their artistic potential.

The artwork, along with other winners will be viewed by hundreds of conference delegates throughout the year. In addition, the image will be placed on www.bgca.org in our virtual gallery for future viewing.
