VENICE PAPARAZZI NON PROFIT AND EVENT SPOTLIGHT:

Non Profit:  A Window Between Worlds

url

Mission:
A Window Between Worlds is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using art to help end domestic violence. Through creative expression, battered women and children gain a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength educate the public and become “a window between worlds” for survivors taking steps to change their lives.

Expanded Scope:
A Window Between Worlds’ partners have long recognized the impact of Windows trauma-informed arts programs for survivors of all forms of trauma*. Through partnership with agencies serving trauma survivors in various fields, AWBW is further developing trauma-informed art workshops to better serve the following sectors: sexual assault, veteran’s communities, homelessness, male survivors, and batterer’s intervention.

It is our hope to make this resource available to any agency seeking a trauma-informed and strength based service that offers art as a healing tool to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and other forms of prolonged trauma.

Since 1991, AWBW has provided creative expression as a healing tool for over 112,000 battered women and their children in crisis shelters, transitional homes, and outreach centers throughout the United States.

By providing an environment that promotes healing, art workshops help
women and children to develop a renewed sense of hope and possibility
that profoundly impacts future decisions regarding the direction of
their lives, their relationships, and how to stay safe. Art empowers survivors to transform how they view themselves, allowing them to see past the abusive messages they learned from their batterers and rebuild their self-confidence.

The AWBW Program is available to any agency or organization seeking to implement art as healing tool for survivors of domestic violence. We invite you to learn more about our programs and to join us in using art to empower survivors and to break the silence surrounding domestic violence in our communities.

For further information on our programs please call us at (310) 396-0317 or e-mail[email protected]. For other domestic violence resources, see our Domestic Violence Resource List.

EVENT:  A Window Between Worlds invite you to Artworks for Healing, an evening of art and wine tasting on 10/26. Get your tickets now!

ArtworksFinalInvite2013

Set at the Peninsula Beverly Hills, a long-time supporter of AWBW’s healing work,
Artworks for Healing will be an elegant and heartfelt affair, complete with
hor d’oeuvres, wine tastings and dessert.

Artworks for Healing is a combination of our two most successful events of 2012,
Artworks for Healing and the AWBW heART gala.

This is a unique opportunity to collect art by established and emerging Los Angeles-based artists created especially for this event.  Each artwork will reflect the artists’ viewpoint regarding AWBW’s I CAN WE CAN socially engaged art project and will speak to what they personally can do to end violence in our communities.

Artworks will be exhibited anonymously so guests can
let their hearts choose their I CAN pieces.

All proceeds from this event will go to support AWBW’s healing art programs.

Since 1991 AWBW has been the only national nonprofit using art in collaboration with domestic violence agencies to help survivors express and release painful feelings, build self-confidence, and learn positive ways to handle anger. These are critical steps intrauma-informed care that initiate and speed recovery from abuse and help survivors embrace a violence-free future.

As one Women’s Windows participant shared,

“The art allowed me to let go of my past. It made me responsible for myself to decide how I wanted to live my life… to have a better future.”

Thank you for making this healing possible.
