Venice, we brought back the Neptune Festival back on Sat. June 18th, 2011.  Many came out to welcome King Neptune and his royal court  at the beach in Venice,  where King Neptune pronounced the start of summer.  The Royal Court included The Windward Krewe, Miss Jessica and The Sugar Shack Attack, Poseidon, and a lot of Venetians.  The event also included a parade down to the Venice Beach boardwalk, where everyone shouted, “Hail the King, Hail Summer, Hail Venice… hell ya!!!!!” The event concluded with cocktails at Danny’s.  It was another great moment in Venice !!!

Venice History: It began with the arrival of King Neptune in an outrigger canoe followed by Queen Venetia’s coronation and a royal procession along Ocean Front Walk. The queen read a proclamation commanding her subjects to engage in three days of fun and frivolity. The afternoon parade featured floats and costumed merrymakers wearing enormous plaster of paris heads that were manufactured in Arthur Reese’s studio. Windward Avenue was roped off for a street carnival where wandering gondoliers entertained.

This 2011 Neptune event was just the start.  It took about 8 days to prepare for this.  Stay tuned for next year’s bigger and badder Neptune festival!!!!

Get to know this year’s King Neptune – David Frison

David Frison is the super buff guy who hangs out at the sand box.  Which one? You might ask, as that description fits many a local.  Well, David is the guys that pulls back flips of off the 12 foot bleacher, landing in the sand next to the balance beam.  David has been a fixture in the Muscle Beach Park for well over a decade, so today we are going to get to know him and what his favorite thing in Venice are.  Click here to  meet your neighbor Dave Frison, a.k.a Venice Gymnast
